The convertible-specific assembly line, as well as the process of assembling and adjusting the soft top or the rollover protection system, are part of the main production line.
gasoline-fueled 640i packing a turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six with 320HP and 450Nm (332 lb-ft). This engine propels the 640i Convertible from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.7 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).


In 640i guise, the car will only use 7.9 liters / 100 km (~30 mpg), while the V8's fuel economy is a bit less efficient at 10.7 liters / 100 km (~22 mpg).

Later down the line some markets can expect turbo-diesels (a 630d or 640d), as well as a high-output twin-turbo V8 in the M6 convertible.
With the new 6, an unique press hardening technology is being used. This galvanized steel sheets are first cold-formed and then heated to over 900 degrees Celsius. Immediately thereafter, they are cooled down in a pressing tool with integrated water cooling within a few seconds to about 70 degrees Celsius and cured it. This method gives make the sheets three to four times stronger in comparison to conventional steel.
First production-ready 6 Series Convertible is expected to be delivered to the customer in the first quarter of 2011.
